THE WOLGAN VALLEY WEEKEND WORKSHOP
PLEASE NOTE: The Wolgan Valley Workshop program has been put on hold due to fires and Covid-19.
Email me if you wish to be updated about when the workshop might run.
The Wolgan Valley has spectacular sandstone outcrops, amazing industrial ruins and a large abandoned rail tunnel full of glow-worms. There is wonderful potential for light painting adventures. It’s also a great place to camp.
This weekend workshop is not a formal workshop as such. There is no fee to attend. It’s just for people who share an interest in light painting and would like to come along. It’s a casual and ‘family friendly’ weekend so bring partners and kids. (I will be bringing my 12 year-old son).
We will be camping on flat grassy areas under shady trees and we can sit around the campfire and have a social time as well as undertake some interesting light painting excursions. Camping fee is $40 per site for the weekend.
My plan is to run three light painting sessions. There are limited spaces so press on the Contacts Button below for more information and availability.
Schedule:
Basically I will be running three sessions over the weekend.
- Friday afternoon – Noon to 4pm Glow Worm Tunnel. (Need to go on a Friday, as
the weekends get too crowded in the tunnel these days) - Friday night – 7-9pm Light paint the marvelous old timber Hotel at Newnes and
surrounding landscape features - Saturday night – 7-10pm Newnes Shale Oil Ruins – Amazing old brick ovens which I will light with flame sticks (weather permitting) and all sorts of fab stuff. (For dinner on Saturday night Thomas the hotel owner will serve oven-baked pizza before we head out to photograph. Cost is $25 per person)
Daytime Activities:
For those seeking daytime activities I’ve made arrangements with
a local guide Wolgan Valley Eco Tours to take people out on bushwalking trips. Her
prices are around $80 pp depending on final numbers. Otherwise just enjoy the
wonderful location and the social atmosphere.
Accommodation:
The Newnes Hotel Campground has showers and a toilet block and
that is where I will book you into if you wish. Unfortunately the only cabins are
booked out and the nearby Emirates Resort is $$$.
